My friend Ari Seth Cohen, the talent behind iconic blog Advanced Style, is in his most productive moment: hard work, creativity and years of walking the streets of New York sourcing the greatest-looking old ladies are being rewarded. Not only has he just published his first book, a totally great compilation of his best pictures and his most fabulous models (including an inspiring conversation between Dita Von Teese and 92 year-old cabaret performer and artist Ilona Royce-Smithkin - now try to top that - about style and age) which you can buy here; he has also teamed up with filmmaker Lina Plioplyte to work on an Advanced Style documentary. In it, we will get to know more about Ari's ladies, their treasure-filled wardrobes, the way their style has flourished through the years and, perhaps even most importantly, their secrets to being happier, more active, self-assured and more fulfilled than ever in their 70's, 80's or 90's (sometimes even 100's). In a world obsessed with youth and despondent about wisdom and personality, I think this documentary would be a priceless healing experience. But, in order to produce the film (as Ari is like you and me, not a Hollywood big shot and anyway Hollywood would probably have Nicole Kidman playing Ilona Royce-Smithkin), Ari and Lina have to raise 35.000$. It looks like a fairly big amount, but that's why they have established a Kickstarter project allowing anyone to pledge any amount of money, from 1$ to 5.000$. Really any amount will help, and your generosity will not go unnoticed. You can learn more about the Kickstarter and place your pledges BY CLICKING HERE. Ari and Lina still have 24 days to reunite the money. If they get enough $$$ by June 23, the documentary will be made and we'll sool all be discovering how Ilona does her own fake eyelashes or how 100 year-old Ruth finds the motivation to go to Pilates every day (no, seriously, sometimes I have to think about George Harrison for hours to feel motivated enough to do my yoga practice. I would love to know her secret). So hey ho let's go, people, let's make this happen! THE WORLD NEEDS AN ADVANCED STYLE FILM!
